Barista Bootcamp: engaging our people to innovate

These questions were the starting point for the “Barista Bootcamp”, a three-day session for Autogrill’s top 10 bartenders in Italy, who met to work out innovative ideas following a design-thinking activity co-ordinated by the Digital Academy team - Italy’s first entirely digital school.

The group splitted in two teams to share and develop new ideas, that were later shared on a web-based platform and voted. The winning team will have the possibility of seeing one of their proposals implemented in 2016 and contribute to adding value to the company.

Centrally located, with an entrance from platform 1, the store stretches along an area of over 120 square meters with the counter in plain view, tables and over 25 seats available. The heart of the offerings is represented by the cafeteria, which besides the Italian espresso, it serves also a selection of specialty coffees. The wide choice of café is accompanied by a gastronomic proposal conceived to meet any moment of the day.

In the kitchen, tradition often means healthy habits, however this is also inventiveness or the courage to experiment new paths and combinations that determine the success of a chef, a restaurant or a foodservice philosophy. If it’s true that food is life and culture, then gastronomic innovation is freedom. These themes were discussed by some of the biggest names in Italian and international cuisine at the 12th Identità Golose Convention held in Milan from 6 to 8 March.
